Man Charged With Raping Infant Apprehended
After a single day on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Most Wanted List, a man accused of raping a Giles County infant has been apprehended.
On Thursday TBI officials reported that Anthony Dean Blackwell, 24, of Hunstville, Alabama was wanted on a warrant for rape of a child, and that a reward had been offered for information leading to his arrest.
Blackwell was wanted in connection with the June 9 rape of a four month old child in neighboring Giles County.
TBI reports show that the infant had been left in Blackwell’s care while the mother was away. She returned to find that the baby had sustained, “Signs of trauma that were later determined to be injuries suffered from sexual abuse.”
They indicated that as a result of the injuries, the baby underwent surgery at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
Blackwell was apprehended by authorities with the Huntsville Police Department around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Huntsville authorities report that they received a tip from individuals who had recognized him, leading them to Big Spring Park. There, he was arrested without incident.
Blackwell will be extradited from the Madison County Jail to Giles County for prosecution. Arraignment is scheduled for July 22, 2013.
Officials say that additional charges may be pending.
